CAP Debt Centre
Today, there are people in your community whose lives are being devastated as a result of debt.
People who are skipping meals so their kids can eat and who are on the verge of being evicted. They may be struggling to feed their families, suicidal, depressed and alone.
Partnering CAP’s service with the compassion of the local church is changing thousands of lives every year. Families are going debt free, coming to know God and finding a supportive church family.
What CAP Provides
CAP provides your church with all the training and support to enable you to deliver a professional credit counseling tool that’s proven to help some of the most vulnerable in society. We do all the credit counseling centrally, allowing your Debt Center Manager to focus on supporting the clients spiritually and practically. This means your church won’t have to worry about all the financial and legal knowledge, as our highly trained caseworkers at head office will take care of all that for you.
What your church needs to do
In order to open a CAP Debt Center, your church will need the following:
To recruit someone from your church to become your church's CAP Debt Center Manager. They will need to work a minimum of two days per week and they can be paid or volunteer in this role. CAP can provide a job profile for to help you find the right person.
Your Debt Center Manager would need access to a computer, a cell phone, and internet access.
A small team of 5-10 volunteers from your church who are willing to support the Debt Center Manager and the clients you will be helping through your Debt Center.
Opening a new CAP Debt Center incurs a significant cost to CAP (roughly $27k per year), but we are happy to invest in local churches that want to help the poor and save the lost in their communities. We do ask that churches share in this cost and make a monthly contribution towards at least a third of CAP's costs - a minimum of $750 per month. We don't want finances to be a barrier to your church opening a Debt Center so keep us in the conversation and we'll see what we can do.
The best way to launch your church's Debt Center is to book a CAP speaker to give a talk at a Sunday service or other launch event. This launch talk will help to promote your Debt Center within the church, recruit a team of volunteers and inspire your congregation about the work of Christians Against Poverty. We will also give out free copies of CAP's book 'Nevertheless' and an opportunity for people to support the work of CAP by making a regular donation.
If your church is interested we would love to hear from you!
