While waiting for an appointment, I was looking at the brochures and I came across one from CAP. I read it and thought a free debt solution service? Really? This is right up my alley! As someone who was in debt, I knew that I had to take action and call CAP. So, I made the call and was greeted by a warm and welcoming voice. That voice connected me with a volunteer Debt Coach who met me at my local library. The kind and patient volunteer Debt Coach was prepared with CAP reading material for us to go over together. I was treated with respect and felt motivated to continue with CAP's services. I never felt alone during my time with CAP and the awe-inspiring volunteer Debt Coach. Prior to the pandemic, I was invited to CAP events and was provided with gifts and gift cards when I needed them most to buy groceries and the like. It was so nice to receive gift cards where I used them to treat myself. Essentially, I felt cared for during a time in my life when I was struggling financially. I was also shown that I could put aside monthly savings with a low income. I started to feel like I was in control again. With the help of CAP and the volunteer Debt Coach, I am happy to say that I am debt-free and it feels awesome!

When I first began to work with my client and their parent, they were experiencing a crisis situation and required a lot of support. I was quite overwhelmed by the situation and had limited capacity to support the client and their parent with the debt they were experiencing. I eventually learned they were connected to CAP and I began to work with their team in Saskatoon. Lisa and I worked closely to support the family and get them out of crisis. This would not have been made possible without the team at CAP. CAP was able to wrap around my client and their parent and offer various support without judgement in a supportive way. The team were able to help whenever a roadblock would occur and this made all the difference in supporting their transition to safer housing. The team at CAP approach each situation we encountered with grace, and would meet the family where they were at by supporting all areas of the individual.
